Client Company

Our client is a British retailer which specialises provide a range of clothing for mums-to-be, babies and pre-school children, together with home and travel products and toys tailored to the local market. It operates on the high streets and out of town in UK, and its overseas franchise business currently operates through 220 stores in 19 countries, primarily in Europe, the Middle East and the Far East.

Position – Product Engineer-Plastic/Wood Products (Shanghai)

Position Summary

1. Within the company’s FE based operation, to manage from concept through to production the development of hard goods products with specific responsibility for (insert Product Type)
2. Work in partnership with UK based Design, Technical and Supply teams as a specialist responsible for product development and approval through the critical path in conjunction with the FE or global sources
3. Initially to work alongside the source to ensure that products are developed to the Design Brief and to standard on behalf of the HO Design Technologist:
- Manage the prototyping of products to specification from design brief and sealed sample
- Ensure that production is as per the prototype and to the company’s agreed standards

Job Responsibilities

1. Source Development
‐ Provide feedback and recommendation to the Sourcing Manager and Design Technologist as to factory potential and suitability for the company.
‐ Highlight efficiencies and or deficiencies or recommendation for continual improvement
‐ Support the development of new and existing sources in terms of manufacturing capabilities to ensure the products are developed using the latest technology and materials, in the most cost effective manner
‐ Work with 3rd parties (ITS) as required to ensure standards are set and maintained
‐ Educate and train factories on the company’s standards on the design & technical specifications and guidelines to ensure adherence at all times
‐ Recommend, organize or deliver training in other respects to sour
